Angeline's Story

The beginning of Workforce Retention

Workforce Retention

Several years ago, I was tasked with compiling workforce metrics for a board report. One critical item was the 'top reasons people leave.' To my astonishment, the organisation couldn’t provide insightful data on why employees were leaving. Recognising the high cost of voluntary turnover and its significant impact on the business bottom line, I saw a glaring missed opportunity.

I discovered that many internally run interview programmes were sporadic, lacked trust, and failed to provide centralised, objective insights. Moreover, they missed creating a psychologically safe space for employees to share their true experiences.

For over 10 years, we have operated successfully as a boutique business, constantly refining and adapting our methods and servicing industries spanning Finance & Insurance, Mining, Retail, Local Government, Logistics, Health, Education & Legal.  We’ve transformed our interviews by incorporating neuroscience principles. We create an environment where employees feel safe, calm, in control, and valued. This allows us to capture genuine stories and unfiltered truths, helping employees find closure and providing valuable insights for employers.

Here are some of our distinguishing services and features:

  • Neuroscience-Based Exit & Stay Interviews: We aim to get the 'real story' behind why employees are disengaged. Using neuroscience principles we create a safe, calm, and controlled environment for genuine and unfiltered employee feedback.

  • Comprehensive Data Analysis: Providing deep, actionable insights that address core issues and significantly improve employee engagement and retention rates.

  • Unique Insights Platform Powered by AI: Incorporating advanced AI technology, our insights platform calculates the top reasons people leave or stay, presenting helpful, simple, and focused charts and summarised commentary.

  • Targeted Leadership Coaching and Workshops: Using the results we empower leaders with strategies to enhance communication, ensure psychological safety, manage stress, and boost productivity

Relevant Qualifications: Angeline is tertiary qualified in Human Resources, Change Management and is a certified coach with the International Coaching Federation, a Brain-Based Accredited Coach with the Neuroleadership Institute and an accredited facilitator in NeuroTREAD™ (Enhansen Performance)

Employees can easily feel threatened even by the idea of an interview. There may be fear of retribution if they reveal the truth. They may tense up if they are not given enough cues that they are safe. Not having a sense of control can also create discomfort. When the brain is in a ‘threat’ state, we have a narrow focus, we’re more risk averse and our body releases stress hormones.  This is not ideal if you’re looking for candid, objective insight about what is creating turnover and disengagement.

Having studied with the Neuroleadership Institute and later becoming an accredited brain-based coach and NeuroTREAD facilitator, I have developed interview training in Psychological Safety and Neuroscience techniques for all Workforce Retention’s Interview Consultants.

Each consultant learns the techniques through a combination of theory, demonstration and assessment. This means that during the stay or exit interview the employee is more in a ‘reward’ vs. ‘threat’ state and feels safe to open up and tell their story. They are more likely to provide powerful insights into what could be improved about the organisation, leaving them feeling valued and heard.

The Neuroscience of Interviews

The latest Neuroscience research tells us that certain social settings can put us into a ‘threat’ state, reduce psychological safety and shutting us down.
